This Irish girl's e-mails perfectly illustrate how difficult it is to have an Irish name

“Hi Nimah!”

AS EVERYONE KNOWS, having an Irish name is both a gift and a curse.

It can lead to Starbucks mishaps, mangled pronunciations and, as this Irish woman has demonstrated, frustrating e-mail correspondences.

Over the past few months, Niamh O’Maolain has been sharing e-mails in which people make an absolute hames of spelling her name. “But Niamh is only five letters long,” you say. “How can people mess it up?”

Well…

“Hi Neave” – Nope, not even close.

“Hi Niamph” – So close, yet so far.

“Hi Nimah” – Deep breaths.

“Hi Naimh” – OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Just copy and paste!

“Sorry Namh” – But not sorry enough to spell your name right.
